Tomsk project “The Paleozoic” to achieve national status

Today, August 6 in St. Petersburg, Sergey Zhvachkin, Governor of the Tomsk region, and Aleksey Vashevich, Director for Technology Development of Gazprom Neft, held a meeting on expansion of cooperation between the region and the company in science and technology.
The main point of the meeting was the development of “The Paleozoic” project, which is being implemented in the Tomsk region by Gazprom Neft, regional administration and the created by them cross-industrial center for join technology development. Within the frameworks of the project, the region is creating a testing ground, and the joint venture of Gazprom Neft and Rosgeo begins its work.
“Together with the specialists of one of the leading oil companies in Russia, Tomsk scientists are solving the most complex problem of development of efficient technology for search and exploration and development of pre-Jurassic hydrocarbon deposits,” – said Sergey Zhvachkin, Governor of the Tomsk region. “This project is nation-wide, that is why in the nearest future we will apply for support for it to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. In my opinion, it is worth considering establishing a national “The Paleozoic” directorate to synchronize the plans of Russia’s leading companies on production of hard-to-recover hydrocarbons. And of course, one must stipulate tax relief for companies working with such oilfields in West Siberia”.
The head of the region and Director for Technology Development of Gazprom neft agreed to hold an international conference in Tomsk in 2020 on production of hydrocarbons from pre-Jurassic formations.
“Together with our leading universities, the cross-industrial center, scientific and technical center of Gazprom Neft, technology center Bazhen, within the frameworks of creating a world-class research and education center in the Tomsk region, we will develop a program for comprehensive development of skills that would speed-up the implementation of such ambitious project as “The Paleozoic,” the Tomsk Governor stressed. “We are to not just mobilize the potential and capabilities of Tomsk academic organizations to solve most complex industrial tasks, but also to build for it an entire system of national and international cooperation”.
Among the attendants of the meeting were vice-governors Andrey Antonov, Lyudmila Ogorodova, Pyotr Chubik, acting rector of TPU, Viktor Dyomin, vice-rector of TSU for academic activities, Viktor Rulevskiy, prorector for research and innovations of TUSUR, Valeriy Rukavishnikov, Director of Cross-industrial Center for Joint Research, and the heads of main relevant departments of Gazprom Neft.
