The final stage of the all-Russian project “The great names of Russia” has begun. When it ends and the public voting is over, 47 national airports will be named after prominent compatriots.
According to VCIOM, the three favorites for the Tomsk airport include Nikolay Kamov, aircraft designer and the creator of “Ka” helicopters; Nikolay Rukavishnikov, cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union; Andrey Savinykh, surgeon. The winning name will be determined by a voting that ends on November 30.
Vitaliy Grakhov, member of the Public Chamber of Russia, Deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of the Tomsk region, explained the key principle of the voting.
“Everybody can choose only one Russian airport from the list and vote for only one name, the principle is “one vote – one airport – one name”,” he stressed.
There are several ways to vote. On the website Великиеимена.рф (The Great Names of Russia), one must pass authorization with a mobile phone number, find the airport and choose one of the three shortlisted names. If you have an existing account, you can vote on social networks Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki. To do so, one must enter a special application in the public group on Odnoklassniki or Vkontakte. Links to the applications are available at Великиеимена.рф (The Great Names of Russia).
One can also vote by using the hotline 8-800-707-93-17 and following the instructions of the operator. The call is free from any Russian region.
Another way to vote is by filling-in a questionnaire distributed by volunteers. In Tomsk, the locations for the voting can be found in shopping centers Stroypark on Pushkina and Vershinina streets, in the Emerald City, the main buildings of TPU (30 Lenina Str.) and TSU (36 Lenina Ave.), Academic and laboratory building of SSMU (building 7, 2 Moscovskiy Trakt), as well as in the airport of Tomsk. In Seversk, the voting locations are in Marmelayt shopping center (11-a Kurchatova Str.) and Olympia sports complex (66/1 Kalinina Str.). The voting locations are available in their business hours on weekdays and on the weekend.
One more way to vote is via newspaper questionnaires. The questionnaires will be published in federal prints – “Komsomolskaya Pravda” newspaper (Issues dated November 16, 20 and 22) and “Argumenty I Fakty” (Issues dated November 21 and 28). The questionnaire must be cut out, filled-in by choosing one of the three names of contestants, and sent to the address of the Public Chamber of Russia: Building 1, 7 Miusskaya ploshad, Moscow 125993.
Vitaliy Grakhov noted that the status of the voting is available daily at Великиеимена.рф (The Great Names of Russia). The winning names will be those that have drawn the most of votes in all the above mentioned ways. The results will be declared and announced on December 5 when 47 Russian airports, the Tomsk airport among them, will be officially given the names chosen by Russian residents.
“I call all the residents of the Tomsk region for actively taking part in the voting to choose the name for the Tomsk airport,” Vitaliy Grakhov appealed.
