Heads of the European Diplomatic Missions Get to Know Tomsk Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Rare Book Section of TSU

Today, on October 7th, the Governor of Tomsk region Sergey Zhvachkin introduced the EU Ambassador in Russia Markus Ederer and the heads of the diplomatic missions of the EU countries in Russia the work of Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of National Research Tomsk State University.
Before visiting NR TSU, Sergey Zhvachkin and Markus Ederer together with the heads of the diplomatic missions of European countries in Russia laid flowers on the war and labor memorial of Tomsk citizens in Lagerny Sad in Tomsk.
Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is a descendant of the European Union Centre in Siberia, which has also been located in the first beyond the Urals Tomsk State University. The object of study here is EU experience in the development of democratic processes and civil institutes. Experts of the center devote much attention to problems of young people and their role in economic, political, social and cultural life of the society.
In the conference hall of Science Library of NR TSU, the delegation met the students and professors of university headed by the Rector Eduard Galazhinsky. Then, the Europeans with the Governor and the Rector went to the Rare Book Section where they took a look at unique tomes. Ambassador of France in Russia Sylvie Bermann got profoundly interested in rare editions of the XVIII century and she expressed a wish to study them more closely.
“Tomsk State and Tomsk Polytechnic Universities participate in the federal project “5-100” and, hopefully, in a few years they will join best European universities in top hundred leading universities of the world”, - noted the Governor of the Tomsk region following the results of the visit.
